This magazine was first published by scientists from the Manhattan Project to alert the world to the dangers from weapons of mass destruction. With the end of the Cold War, its mission seemed irrelevant to many potential readers, and its subscriber base had steadily gotten older. We needed to make it relevant to the present. And the most interesting, provocative way to do that, we decided, was through the content of the magazine itself. We're happy to report this campaign exceeded all their subscription objectives. And sad to report that they've recently moved the "doomsday clock" one minute closer to midnight.
